I apologize for the length of this but i hope you take the time to read and give a genuine opinion. I am really at a loss here and not sure what to do. i believe my future depends on this. i really need this job, its perfect….but i am just…not…sure….i will try to make this short and easy to read:

I spoke with a lady recently from yahoo chat. I was in a room and we were all talking about working from home and i mentioned in the room that i was looking to work from home.

She sends me a message and asks me to view a link. The link was of a printer, a printer that is capable of printing checks.

She asks me if i want to be her employee and, after a while of talking she tells me that i will be printing payroll checks for customers and sending them off via UPS next day air.

She said she has ordered the printer for me and it is already on its way to my house. She showed me (in text) a copy of the UPS shipping report. Anyhow, the next thing she asked me to do and keeps asking me to do is get 100 – 200 UPS next day air shipping labels and the envelopes that go with it.

She told me i could go to a UPS store and get about 10 – 20 of them and then go to another store and so on…..well, i went to the only local store within 30 miles and she only had 5…she kind of looked at me like i was crazy and was asking questions….

The ups lady asked me “whats the company name?” Thats when i realized something is up. after a few days of talking to the lady from the chatroom, she never told me the company name.

ups lady asked me if i had a UPS account, and repeated that i MUST have a UPS account in order to get that many supplies in that amount.

i basically told her the story here and she called her supervisor. he came down and told me he would have a sales rep call me.

welll, the sales rep called me and basically said that i have to have an account (UPS accounts require a credit card, and i do not have one.)

I told the lady from the chatroom about this and she said “I have always gotten them free, i have never needed to give a company name or UPS account number”

she basically danced around the questions:

“what is the company name?”
“what is YOUR UPS account number?”
“Won’t i need the company name//UPS account information anyways to ship out these checks??”
“What about the w-4?”
“how can i file my taxes next year if i dont have all this information?”

in the end she told me the company name was named after her since she started the business.
she said the w4 would have to wait until she expanded bigger
she gave me an invalid UPS account number registered to someone in amarillo.

I have not brought the last part up to her yet because she just keeps telling me to go to the UPS offices and get these ASD’s and envelopes, i kept telling her they wont let me do it without an account number.

i am just going to wait and see if the printer actually arrives before i start doing anything major.

as far as she told me, i would be paid once a month $1000 after taxes
She has not sent any software for me to view and she has not said anything about any type of training….i figured we could use this time to train me on the materials……

I wanted to speak with her or call her and she said she was in paris for a conference meeting…. i told her that yahoo has a calling feature and she said her computer does not support audio and she does not have a webcam.
she said she is from Fresno California.

please e-mail me with any questions you might have or know of someone that also does this for a living or if you know for sure its a scam.

thanks everyone for such fast responses…i hope you will bookmark me and ask someone else to take a look…. and no, the only info i gave her was my address…and she can’t do much with that. i was comfortable with that because i have everything recorded and am working on getting an IP address..

I have NOT spent any money and told her i had none to spend and will not spend she told me it was fine that i would never have to spend any money. For the one that said he/she does this for a living, thank you for that that gave me a little confidence but i am still weary and will be careful.. please send my link to your friends and have them give their opinion please! oh i almost forgot! she said i have to have the UPS slips because she is going to tell me how to fill them out. i told her i was able to get one and asked her well how do i fill it out? she danced around that too and just kept telling me to get the supplies. >.< very frustrating. she is not being very clear, being vague with pretty much everything.....and about how i was supposed to file my taxes without company name and how she can claim taxes without my info......her exact words (copy-paste from the convo>) “well think think think …you should be able to figure these things out on your own without my help…”

Payroll department uses scanners to save money.

I’ve been looking for a data entry job on Craigslist. Most of the emails I got back were scams, but this one might actually be the real deal. Anyone able to verify it? This is the email I received:

It is our pleasure to extend the following offer of employment to you on behalf of CSC PAPERS GROUP.

Title: ONLINE PAYROLL/DATA ENTRY CLERK

This offer is contingent upon your passing our mandatory CV screening, our receipt of your college details, and any other contingencies you may wish to state.
We opted to recruit staffs to work online from home to help us do (Balance sheets, account balancing, invoicing recording, proper data analysis of sales records and recording pay slips into account database all through the use of Payroll/Accounting Softwares)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
You are to report to your Supervisor online, who will assign logs of duty daily and you will be required to work according to instructions, using Microsoft Office and Payroll/Accounting Softwares. The function of the software is to arrange, formalize and manage datas you have processed and sent to your supervisor through the Internet. The software also gives your supervisor the total hours you have worked on for the day, which helps us to calculate your working hours.

BASE SALARY
Salary will be paid weekly or bi-weekly installments of $375:00 weekly, and subject to deductions for taxes and other withholdings as required by law or the policies of the company.

BONUS OR COMMISSION POTENTIAL
Effective upon satisfactory completion of the 7 days online training of employment, and based upon the goals and objectives agreed to in the performance development planning process with your supervisor, you may be eligible for a bonus. The bonus plan for this year and beyond, should such a plan exist, will be based on the formula determined by the company for that year.

NON-COMPETE AGREEMENT
Our standard non-compete agreement must be signed prior to start.

BENEFITS
The current, standard company health, life, disability and dental insurance coverage are generally supplied per company policy. Eligibility for other benefits, including the 401(k) and tuition reimbursement, will generally take place per company policy. Employee contribution to payment for benefit plans is determined annually.

STOCK OPTIONS

This is an online job so you are required to purchase a platinumpay software for 7 Days Intensive online training with your supervisor. (I think thats the scam right there, if there is one) Other equipments to get you working after the training have been provided free of charge by the Company. This includes HP Notebook for mobility, HP Portable Printer and some other Software’s for accuracy, Speed of data processing, time monitoring and effectiveness.

You also need to install Yahoo! Messenger on your computer, you can download it free on www.yahoo.com. This is to facilitate effective and interactive chat session with your supervisor online during the 7 days online training. when this is done add (Not going to give out the email address here) to your buddy list.

FUND FOR EQUIPMENTS
You will recieve fund from us and details on the supply of softwares and equipments. When the fund is recieved you are to deduct your training bonus and send the outstanding balance out to the suppliers.

Hello yahoo Business and Financing community!

2 friends and I have been planning to start a company and at first we sold by word of mouth and now that we got quiet a few sales going and more buyers, we decided to make a website and get more professional software. We were unsure and most of our acquaintances who are in the business world use industrial and old model programs and machinery. We purchased some new software but wanted a second opinion before starting everything!
