Lucent Technologies: evaluate the asset, debt, and equity structure?
Executive Summary We design and deliver the systems, software and services that drive next-generation communications networks. Backed by Bell Labs research and development, we use our strengths in mobility, optical, access, data and voice networking technologies, as well as services, to create new revenue-generating opportunities for our customers, while enabling them to quickly deploy and better manage their networks. Our customer base includes communications service providers, governments and enterprises worldwide. We have three segments organized around the products and services we sell. The reportable segments are Integrated Network Solutions (“INS”), Mobility Solutions (“Mobility”) and Lucent Worldwide Services (“Services”). INS provides a broad range of software and wireline equipment related to voice networking (primarily consisting of switching products, which we sometimes refer to as convergence solutions, and voice messaging products), data and network management (primarily consisting of access and related data networking equipment and operating support software) and optical networking. Mobility provides software and wireless equipment to support radio access and core networks. Services provides deployment, maintenance, professional and managed services in support of both our product offerings as well as multi-vendor networks. Beginning in fiscal 2001, the global telecommunications market deteriorated, resulting from a decrease in the competitive local exchange carrier market and a significant reduction in capital spending by established service providers. This trend intensified during fiscal 2002 and continued into fiscal 2003. Reasons for the market deterioration included general economic slowdown, network overcapacity, customer bankruptcies, network build-out delays and limited availability of capital. We believe that the market for telecommunications equipment has stabilized and is starting to grow in certain areas. The growing demands of enterprises and consumers for additional services tailored to their needs is creating the need for a new convergence of networks, technologies and applications. Required 1. Using the Consolidated Balance Sheets for Lucent Technologies for September 30, 2004 and 2003, prepare a common-size balance sheet. 2. Evaluate the asset, debt, and equity structure of Lucent Technologies, as well as trends and changes found on the common-size balance sheet. 3. What concerns would investors and creditors have based on only this information? 4. What additional financial and nonfinancial information would investors and creditors need to make investing and lending decisions for Lucent Technologies? LUCENT TECHNOLOGIES INC. PostHeaderIcon I need help converting hours into decimals. . .?

I recently was put in charge of payroll at my job, and can’t quite seem to wrap my head around converting hours into decimals. We break it down to 1/4 hours. Math is like a foreign language to me! If there was some sort of converter that I could, say, put in the time someone clocked in, and the time they clocked out, and then it would tell me that they worked (for example) 7.75 hours. Are there any software programs that will accomplish this for me? Or maybe a website with some sort of javascript? Or maybe an excell formula? I am at the mercy of technology! Pretend that I’m in the 3rd grade. ;) I need to figure out how to get the decimal number. Example: John clocks in at 8:02am. He clocks out for lunch at 11:46am and clocks back in at 12:16pm. He clocks out for the day at 2:17pm. How do I get the hours worked in decimal form?

PostHeaderIcon Ladies n Gentlemen Please help me with this Market Research stuff ? I need your suggestions on it.?

Dear all i am doing my internship with a software company, which was initially providing customised packages of accounting, payroll and inventory management. The company has a strong presence in middle east with a brand name of FOCUS. It has now ventured into providing web enabled versions of these products for small to medium enterprises. My project is market research on the web enabled products of this organization which will be conducted online for their middle east based customers. My question is that wether this research is a kind of brand extension or a product extension. What questions areas should i focus to undersatnd the belief of customers in this company as a brand.

Need to Make Some Quick Gas Money?

PostHeaderIcon Need help calculating payroll & budget for a start up?

I’m in the process of starting my own company. It’s only going to be a handful of people to begin with and the rest on contract when needed. The question I have is how do I handle the payroll for my employees and freelancers?

I would be getting the contracts directly from clients and then have to pay my people accordingly. This means until I get payed I cannot pay them.

How do I calculate their taxes and how much I can afford to pay everyone if all I know is how much the client will pay?

I’ve never done anything like this before. Is there any book you’d recommend or some kind of software I can use to help me figure all this out?

Well yes eventually that would obviously be the first step. Right now I have nothing, no clients, no work, no money … no employees. I’m trying to prepare this info or at least educate myself about this stuff so the moment I get a gig I’m ready to go.
